Backend engineering where correctness is not optional

Senior software engineer with 8+ years designing and operating backend systems in Java and Spring Boot. I own services end to end — technical design, implementation, deployment and production support — and lead the design discussions that decide how they get built.

My background is in high-volume transactional systems, most recently European payment infrastructure. That’s shaped how I work more than where I want to work: strong defaults around correctness, security and observability, and comfort running services that can’t be allowed to fail quietly. I deploy and operate on AWS, and work closely with architects, QA and DevOps.

    Senior Software Engineer

    Unzer Group GmbH

    Unzer Group is a European payment services provider offering integrated payment solutions for online and in-store merchants.

    • Own backend services end-to-end — from technical design and implementation through testing coordination, deployment support and production operations.
    • Lead technical design discussions and contribute architectural input to ensure alignment with enterprise security, reliability and compliance standards.
    • Provide technical leadership during production incidents — impact analysis, root-cause investigation and driving timely resolution.
    • Use Claude Code extensively in day-to-day delivery, and author reusable Claude skills that codify recurring engineering workflows.
    • Participate in code and design reviews, and maintain API specifications and operational documentation.

    • Designed, developed, deployed and operated Java / Spring Boot microservices supporting financial reporting, reconciliation and integrations with banking and enterprise systems.
    • Deployed and ran backend services on AWS (EC2, S3, ECR, Secrets Manager) in collaboration with platform and DevOps teams.
    • Implemented secure authentication and authorization using Spring Security, OAuth2, JWT and role-based access control.

    • Developed Java backend services powering consumer-facing mobile banking and payment applications.
    • Designed and maintained RESTful APIs consumed by mobile clients and external partner systems.
    • Implemented and maintained Apache Kafka consumers to integrate backend services with asynchronous processing pipelines.
    • Designed and optimized SQL schemas and queries for high-volume transactional workflows.
    • Collaborated with product, QA and operations teams to deliver reliable financial services.
    • Supported production environments — troubleshooting issues and ensuring high service availability.
    • Mentored junior engineers and regularly conducted code reviews to lift code quality and team consistency.
